How we can replace missing teeth – Dental Implants

Whether through accident or disease a missing tooth can be extremely distressing, it will no doubt affect the way you feel about yourself and it will certainly affect your dental wellbeing.

The loss of front teeth can be unsightly, whilst the loss of back teeth can lead to a decrease in chewing function.  When you lose a tooth, the gum and bone in that area are no longer supported, the jawbone will shrink and your gum begins to pull back, this in turn can weaken neighbouring teeth.

You will also notice that your cheeks will become hollowed as they can no longer fully stabilise your face from the inside, this of course is very ageing - every tooth really does count!

What are your options for replacing missing teeth and filling the gaps?   Dentures, bridges or dental implants, here at Blyton Dental we can guide and advise which may be the best solution for you.

If you have a few or all of your teeth missing and you are struggling with function and appearance, a great solution is to have dental implants. A dental implant is an artificial replacement for a tooth root, usually made from titanium. They are suitable for most adults with good general health.

Dental implants lead to fewer visits to the dentist as they're easier to maintain compared to loose fitting dentures. With dental implants, you never have to worry about your dentures falling out while speaking or laughing in social situations. Also, they feel more comfortable and look natural.

Implants don’t have to be expensive, a cost effective and time saving option is an ‘implant stabilised overdenture’.  This system is a type of denture that is supported by and fixed to implants with special attachments that work like a snap fastener or a press-stud.  This is a great solution for replacing loose fitting dentures and we are often able to convert existing dentures (if they are not too old) to implant stabilised removable overdentures.

Another option to consider is the Full Arch Implant Rehabilitation (FAIR) concept, also called 'All on 4', ‘Teeth Express’ or ‘Same Day Teeth’.  We can remove any remaining teeth with poor prognosis and fit implants and a fixed hybrid bridge on the same day.  The All-On-4 system is a modern alternative solution if you have lost all of your teeth. This treatment replaces your missing teeth with a full dental bridge, supported by just 4 dental implants.

We have several patients at Blyton Dental who have received treatment using these options and have had excellent results from such cases.

If you decide to go ahead with treatment, we will schedule a clinical consultation which will involve a thorough examination of your existing teeth and digital photographs of the inside and outside of the mouth.  At Blyton Dental we use the latest technology ‘Dental Cone Beam CT Scanner’ to produce 3D images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan.  We can then prepare a detailed treatment plan, specifically for you.

If you wish to discuss dentures or any dental implant procedures, call Blyton Dental and benefit from a free consultation with one of our experienced team members.
