Wow! Well that year went fast. Today- the 16th of November 2018-marks our third birthday here at Blyton Dental. In some ways it feels like yesterday when it felt strange to open the doors on the converted house we had creatively turned into our new workplace and in other ways it feels like we have always been here doing what we love.
This year has seen us grow from a two surgery practice to a three surgery practice with a second storey extension to the back of the building being added in late April. Credit goes to the team of builders SW Cowley and all the tradesmen involved. They really went above and beyond our expectations and pulled it out the bag timewise for us to welcome our first patients into surgery 3 on the 9th of July. Also added was the upstairs waiting room which houses the nurse’s station so we have an extra space for staff to complete tasks and take calls.
With this growth we have seen a few staff changes over the year. We sadly lost Kat early on in the year. Kat was an integral member of the team who started working as Arun’s nurse back in 2008 at the practice a lot of the staff worked at previously. She stepped up to become the practice senior and took on the role of overseeing infection prevention. Losing Kat left a big void as anyone who knows her will know she is a big character and was popular with patients and staff alike. Kat still pops in to see us and will be celebrating our third birthday with us. We wish her all the best on her path in her new career.
We have welcomed Clare, Fiona and more recently Ellie into the Blyton Dental family. Clare and Fiona are experienced qualified dental nurses who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the practice as well as all the personable skills our patients expect from us. Ellie is currently undertaking her dental nurse qualification but has shown already in the two weeks she has been with us that she is organised and has the kind manner with patients that we strive for. Jo continues on her dental nurse studies and continues to prove how capable she is and Leanne has really stepped up in her senior role, also enrolling on a practice seniors course to boost her knowledge. Leanne’s passion and drive for what she does is evident in the output of her work. Not only has she driven the refurbishment of two rooms in the practice, she is constantly looking for ways of improving how we run to make the practice the best it can be. We sometimes wonder if she goes home at night!
In April Lincs FM came to see us to see how our ‘flossing’ skills are. If only it were dental floss. Have a look through the videos on our Facebook page to see how we all fared with the floss dance craze of the year.
In June we had the honour of being runners up in the best new business category of the Gainsborough business awards.
Dr Arun Thomas and Dr Sharon Jacob’s aim has always been clear since the inception of Blyton dental. To offer excellent quality dentistry at as an affordable price as possible. Motivated by the passion for their chosen career, their sense of responsibility to the community and the cake and food staff members and patients bring in (I’m kidding!.....sort of, we’re a foodie group!) they have guided the practice through its first- sometimes turbulent- few years. They say success starts at the top, we have fair and kind leaders who genuinely care for their staff and patients alike.
